K.U.L. Ewropa would like thank all those who supported its ticket as well as those who were open minded enough to consider its electoral platform.
K.U.L. Ewropa notes that the 2009 edition of the European Parliament Elections have once again confirmed that at this point in time, the traditional voting pattern of the Maltese electorate tends to result in a duopoly of the spoils. In this the Maltese political system is not alone, as it bears similarity to the United States system. Yet, invariably in Malta, as in the United States, small parties tend to show the ideological direction of the country, only to have the momentum so generated taken up by the larger political parties once their innovations start to become more popular.
It is in this light, at the risk of being precocious, that K.U.L. Ewropa had taken the decision to contest the European Parliament elections in order to spur national debate on issues such as increased autonomy for Gozo, a solution for Malta’s challenging migration problem, and a more creative solution to the pensions issue. This is a matter which will become increasingly sensitive as the reality of the aging Maltese population will sink in.
